Basic eBGP Configuration Lab

Configure the IP addresses on R1 and R2. Configure eBGP between R1 (AS 100) and R2 (AS 200). Configure BGP neighbor authentication using the password kz123. Advertise 172.16.1.0/24 from R1 and 172.16.2.0/24 from R2. Verify that the BGP neighbor relationship is established. Verify that both routers learn each other's BGP network. Test connectivity between the two loopback interfaces

Definition and Fundamentals of an Autonomous System (AS)

AS_PATH is an important BGP attribute that shows the Autonomous Systems (ASes) a route passes through. BGP uses AS_PATH to prevent routing loops. If a router receives a route containing its own AS number, it rejects the route. AS_PATH Prepending adds the same AS number multiple times to make a route less preferred by other networks. This helps influence inbound traffic, but the final path selection depends on the remote network's routing policies.

General Concepts & Architecture

BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) is an open-standard path-vector routing protocol defined in RFC 4271. It is used to exchange routing information between Autonomous Systems (ASes) across the Internet and large enterprise networks. Each AS is identified by an Autonomous System Number (ASN), and BGP uses NLRI to advertise network prefixes.
